CORRESPONDENCE.

THE MAN TOR WESTLAND. (To- the Editor). Sir:—lt is quite amusing to read that a certain local body chairman considers Mr T. E. Y. Seddon has been a worker in Parliament. 1 ‘Hansard” is lacking in information on that point and th e last Public Works statemen 4 is also lacking likewise. I do not know sir. of any electorate requiring more liberal treatment for its development and vast extent than Westland, but looking around, I see little sign of i's receiving it. Buller, so far as I can see, is getting the lion’s share these days of what comes the way of the Coast in state expenditure 7 Daresay Mr Seddon will be tho last to suggest any comparison as between the two electorates in that respect. Two excellent opportunities of stressing the wants of Westland have been passed by Mr Seddon. On the other hand, the Public Works votes for tho Greymouth Road District increased from £72 686 to £100,673 during Mr O’Brien’s term as member. The votes have been reduced since he was defeated by an average of £22,000 per annum; and. even then, most of the money is going to Buller County. The votes for Westland alone were £41,585 in 1925 the last year Mr O’Brien was Westland’s representative, and £22,352

was the to al for Air Seddon’: last year 1928. I am not looking at this matter merely from a party standpoint, but from a West Coast standpoint, and I say honestly let all of us who want to see our district progressing and more popular, therefore more wealthy, vote for the candidate wh 0 when tried for only a portion of the time during which his opponent has been missing opportunities was nit found in any way wanting. 1 am etc, REFORMER. Otira Line. October 31.
