The j gelding has never looked back I the spring. Anything he has been ft to do has been done well, and ho ust be giveng good outside chance i the New ZcVand Cup. 0 /) {Count A s vour performed much more ftditably .it Wingatui than the most llimistic of his connections expected II to do. He never looked a likely I

winner; but he was running on at the finish and was close up behind the placed horses when the post was passed. In August.. “The Count” was looking an old worn-ou' gelding—a wreck. Sinc e then, he has improved steadily in appearance and in his galloping. It is hardly possible that T. IL Gillett will be able to turn the old gelding out cherry-ripe for the New Zealand Cup meeting; but he is a capable man and he has hopes of doing so. If he cannot, then there are other cups to tackle later on in tlyj season to win which would be full recompense for not winning the New Zealand Cup. It must not be overlooked that Count Cavour has won a New Zealand Cup with a record weight up.
