QUAKES AND FIRES.
In California. LOS ANGELES ALARMED. (Received Sept. 24 at 11.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 14. Advices from Los Angeles state that. earthquake shocks and forest fires have cawed both alarm and deKtruction in various parts of the State ojr California. There were tJir e distinct shocks in the Los Angeles district. Man’y of the residents- rushed from their homes, but there was no loss of life, or damage. Four firk‘< fighters are dead, and many have been injured, while two thousand fighters are battling with forest fires in widely-separated partof the State, A total area of one hundred thousand acres has b"en devastated, with many oh the ‘ranches and i,i the 6ina.ll settlements.
