SOUTH AFRICAN DIAMONDS.
STATE MINE SUCCESS. CAPETOWN, Sept. 21. The Premier’s preliminary general election campaign is arousing interest by reason of the anticipation that the, profits of Namaqualand State diamonds will be devoted to irrigation on an extensive scale. It is bopi'd to dam the Orange and Vaal Rivers ,whx?rby huge areajs will benefit. An aeroplane brings weekly a valuable- parcel of diamonds to Alexander Bay. It is reported that approximately £5,000,000 Weerth is accumulated at Capetown, although the Government Is disposing of only £6OOD value monthly, so as not to ov/ rstock the market, which recently improved. Mr Hertzog described Namaqualand as a windfall.
