(From Our Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, August 23. At the Magistrate’s Court, Mr A. D. Sneuiioii, Inspector of Awards, proceeded against J. Costello, Cape Foulwind llotci, air failing to keep a time and wages I>ook, as required under the Westdu ii Hotel anti Restaurant Employees’ Award. Mr J. J. Molony, who appea.Ad for Costello, said his client pleaded guilty, but he thought it haroiy necessary j,o keep a book, as he only employed a girl occasionally. Mr L>uca- . ion stated the defendant had been pre- . luiisly before the Court, and agreed to pay a girl who had worked for a.in the wages the Court, in its judgment, prescribed. He had failed to do this, objecting that th tf girl had claimed a week too much. The prosecution might .iot have taken place if defendant had carried < nt. his obligation. Levy stated that she. started on Januaiy 22nd. She had received total payments from defendant of £9 14s. She had left the hotel on Maroa 26th. She had made an entry of the dates in communication to the Inspector (produced). Mr Meldrum said the girl had left on March 26th, and made her statement five days later. It was not likely she had made a mistake, and gave judgment for the amount claimed, £2 Is, with costs for the Inspector, and £1 5s G. HopgooJ. and 10s Miss Levy, witnesses. A straying horse cost its owner 7s and costs, at the Magistrate’s Cou’’t. For breaches of a prohibition order the delinquent was fined 5s on one count, and 5s and costs on the other. At the Warden’s Court yesterday the following business was dealt with: — Mary A. Meth ven, application for renewal of license.—Granted. Gibb Gar diner, application for a residence site. Granted. Isobel McMillan, application for a residence site.—Granted. It has been reported to the Fuller Progress League that the short-ioad-ings for last week were as follows:— Kaponga 772 tons, Opihi 188 tons, Kaimanawa 300 tons. Total’l26o tons. Messrs T. Whittle and Mcßride (representing the Miners’ Union), Mr J. C. Brown and the Mayor (Mr J. H. Harkness) left for Wellington yesterday. where they will meet th e Prime Minister in connection with harbour affairs.

The marriage was celebrated at Westport yesterday of Mr Duncan, of the P. and T. staff Christchurch, to Miss Edith Snow,, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Snow.
