SYDNEY’S COAL.
Ex-Lord Mayor. CORROBORATED BY PREMIER. (Received August 23 at 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 23. At the coal inquiry, ex-Lord Mayor Mosctyn denied that he ever entered ihto any agreement, with any tenderer for a City Council coal contract; Ho had never authorised his wife’s name (o be inserted in any agreement. Just before the Ci<ty Council was dissolved by tin' Government, a recommendation was received that 20,000 tons of coal be purchased from Byrnes Ltd., but he had demurred, and. he had referred the matter to the Premier', Mr Bavin, who advised that the Council should carry on with the coal in hand, leaving the contract to b? arranged by the Commissioners. < The'Premier i Afr Bavin,' also gave evidence. He corroborated cx-Lord Mayor Mostyn ’g statement.
