ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Grey branch ui the Cainerbury Automobile Asocial ion, to be pri scaled at the annual meeting tomorrow. During the past ye,ar the Greymouth. branch has been successful in its co-operation with the Counsy Council in effecting quite a number of road improvements throughout tue district, in tie way of improving flic visibility by cutting away of ba i corners and. widening several narrow ; places, particuJar.y aiear the Teremakau bridge. The Couutv C-uuneil have marked the approaches to bridges by placing white painted boards at both ends, and they are at present erecting a bridge over Crou«k ed River on the Otira road, which will ©liable luo’vor.’sts to proem d beyond Rotomanu Ly car. The Bouth Beacn railway crossing has also been widened, to allow two cars to pa-'S in sai’uiy* The Association made a grant to th“ Runanga Borough Council for t.:e improvement of the AlcTaggurt Esplanade at thd Seven-Mile, the popular camping ground foir motorises in the summer months. During the y’U’ the Greymouih branch has been fortunate in being abb' to complete arrangements with the Grey irotUug Club for tiiu use of its grounds imp* splendifl bui.ding at. A r ie*oriii I'aiK, right in the town, for the use members as a camping ground, and already a largo number of tourists have taken advantage of this benefit. fc>ign boards have been arected at Otii.*, Teremakau, and also -at Reefton, advising members of the situaiion of this camping place. During the ye*r the C.A.A. canvasser, Air lorreub, visited our district, and was very successful in increasing the nienibersnjp.
Some improvements have been made Ou the DilJmanstown-<Jtira Road oj the Public Works Department during the past fe.w months, including iue widening of a corner and cutting back of th© banks about one mile on tae Dilhnanstown side of Harris’s farm, and also the bridging of a deep crec* which often, gives trouble to tourists nean Aickens. There are still a lew watercourses in this road to receive attention, and hope daring the n<xt season to see this all bridged. The efforts of this bra'nch and yum Executive to push forward the loading and bridging of the Coast Roau, between Greymouth and vVestpon, have been successful. The bridges over the Punakaikai and Pororuii rivers art* being ercictcd, and the roa i should be completed in about t’.veive months. We have to Tliank our local Chamber of Commerce for the valuable assistance in this. Last April the Highways Board visi,tcid Greymouth, and a deputation consisting nf Air G. Harker (chairman), Dr. AlcKa.v and Mr F. W. Harley waited upon them, pointing out many necessary improvements needed in the district. They received a sympathetic hearing, and as a result several matters referred to have already received attention, and* wc<" hope yet to sec something done to improve the Spring Creek and Kamaka railway crossings on the North Alain Highway. This branch congratulates the S.I.M.U. Insurance Association upon its remarkable growth and the success that has been achieveid during the first two years of its existence, thus proving the scheme to bp one of the best direct benefits of membership of the C.A.A. We have to think our representative on the Council (Mr H. O. Harley) for his good work during the year.
