RUNANGA NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr E. Smith, of the local school staff, left by Saturday’s express on route to his home in Christchurch. Miss M. Patterson was a passenger on Tuesday’s express for Christchurch Mr N. Griffiths, who has been an inmate of the Grey River Hospital, returned to his home on Saturday last. Two local boxers, Messrs W. Duggan and J. Moynihan, left on Monday morning en route for Auckland, to take part in the boxing tournament to be held there at the end of the week. Mrs G. Gardner left by Tuesday’s express on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. Greening, wh 0 have been on a short visit to Wellington, returned by Tuesday’s express. Mr and Mrs J. Armstrong, who have been attending the racing carnival in Christchurch, returned by Tuesday’s express. The local Gymnastic Club are making great preparations flor their annual ball, which will be held in the Miners’ Hall on Friday, 31st August. An energetic Committee are leaving no stone unturned t 0 make this event a huge success. The Old-Time Dance Club held another of their successful old-time dances in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday even ing. A large crowd wore present. The music was supplied by Billy Williams’ popular orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs O’Neill, and Messrs Armstrong and Sim acted as M’s.C.
