THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Of West Coast. The golfers, about one hundred in number, taking part in the West Coast championship tournament, were unlucky yesterday .by having lor the opening day’s piny weather of a most unpleasant nature. There were repeated showers, and much of the play took place during heavy rain. The Grey mouth Clubs were successful in both shield matches. Mrs Slee nut up the best score- of the day for the ladied while a player in his teens, A. Smith (Greymouth) shared with Park (West port) the honour of topping the men’s scores for the day, while, in addition, Smith did the best round of the day, namely, 35 each way. was well up among the leading eight. BEST AGGREGATE. The trophy for the best aggregate score resulted in a tie between Park and A. K. Smith, with 154. MEDAL HANDICAPS. The Dannevirke ladies’ golf tournament, which was postponed yesterday on account of bad weather, opened today under perfect climatic, conditions. Mrs Collinson (Dalmerston North) headed the qualifying round for the championship with 86. She won her match in the first round one up, after a close game, with Mrs Holden (Dannevirke). The following is the draw for the semi-finals to-morrow morning: Mrs Col linson plays Miss Aloore (Palmerston North), Miss Gaisford (Marton) plays Miss Iliiidmarrh (Dannevirke).
