DANGER FROM IMPORTED CATTLE. WELLINGTON, August 22. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., .take strong exception to the statement issued fi’om. Palmerston North, that foot and mouth disease is prevalent in '•cattle on Soames Island, in Wellington Harbour. They state it is entirely a mistake, and there is no disease .there at all. They and other firms have been importing cattle from North America for years, and this particular shiprn nt is merely undergoing the usual quarau'ino, previous to landing. CHARITABLE BEQUESTS. AUCKLAND, August 22. A donation of £5OO lias ben made to the Jubilee institute for the blind by John Marshall of Bemuera, who a year or two ago gave a. similar amount.

In addition to the bequest of £5OO to the Auckland Hospital (telegraphed •yesterday), the late Alexander Bell had. requeathed the following: £509 each to the Evelyn Firth Home for disabled soldiers, Somervell Presbyterian Church and Jubilee Institute tor the blind; £3OO to Leslie Presbyterian Orphanage and £lOO to the Little Sisters of the Poor, COMMERCIAL.
