FERGUSON’S NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent.) FERGUSON, July 4. The employment question is much; brighter in these parts. The Waitaha Sawmill is working full handed, and is turning out a fair quantity of timber. The Kakapotahi River protection work i° about to start this week. It will be a big job as the river has cut into thp. bank approaching Stewart anil Chapman’s railway line. The big stock yards could also be affected. There is to be a row of piles driven in also trees and scrub to be hauled in with a winch. The railway bridge that was partly washed away with the big flood in the big Waitaha river will soon be ready for timber traffic again; the last pile was driven yesterday and planking and railj will soon be in order for the engine to go over. The winch on that side of the river has been idle since the bridge was washed away. The weather in these parts has been very favourable. There were oily a few frosts last week and this week with beautiful sunshine the days were very warm. The main South road- are in prefect order for motor traffic to the Glacier’s. A big mob of fat cattle camo from I lari Ilari last week to be sold at the Arahura sale yards.
