Entrican at a special meeting of the Auckland City Council held last week that “our streets are not motor car repair depots; the repairs .should be made iieide buildings,” it is not. generally known that by English law it is unlawful Io niak e or repair any part of a cart or carriage upon the King’s highway (states the Star). The remarks were made when a protest against the restriction of parking in Albert Street was received from three motor firms. They stated the proposed limit would not allow sufficient time for their customers to have repairs ef fveted to the tyre- of their cars or have new tyres fitted. The only right the public has ''ii a highway is to pass along it. Therefore, anything which obstructs free passage is unlawful. While t he public have a right on a highway, they have no rights, and therefore it is held in common law that any person who finds an obstruction to his free passage may remove it.

An amusing incident closed thp Invercargill season of the Fuller Gonzalez Opura Compa’iy (says the Times’). After the (in tain had fallen and the principals hrid taken their ‘call’ ’signor Folli appeared. and bi English announced that a photograph would b e taken of the magnificent audience. Maestro Gonsalez and his fell.ow.count rynien in the orchestra had not understood a word of this statement, and when the curtain fell struck up the first notes of the ?<ational Anthem. They were stop|»ed, .and the curtain was raised, to the accompaniment of applause. Signorina Algozzino and Signor Tamburini, also completely in the dark as to Signor Folii’s announcement, took another call, and :»s the applause continued came forward again and again until someone expL-iincd to them. They thereupon told Maestro Gonsalez of the coming events, and eveiybody waited patiently. Then Signor Folli appeared again to announce that hp. had misunderstood, the photograph had already been taken of the stage. But the Alaestro and the orchestra were unaware of this further development- and another long wait ensued until the falling of the curtain gave them a signal they understood and I lie Nat ional Anthem wa s played. Influenza, in more ways than one, is the cowardly disease. In the first p’ace it a*’aeks those who are most afraid of it. Then again, other symptoms are a feeling of depression and a sense of fear. A brave man with the ’ilu is no longer brave. Also, the disease itself is cowardly —it gets you in the weak >pots. It affects the eyes, or he nose, the throat or the stomach. It makes some people dizzy, like the man who had been reading a circular letter. A ’ilu patient is reminded of
all the sickness and ailments of his past life. Therefore, why not insure against it by taking Parkinson’s Influenza Specific. Take it at .the first symptoms. It gets to work at once, and u ually effects a cure in a few doses. It is put up in a convenient form and full directions for use are printed on the bottle. Air Bolton, County ('ha'iinan. handed Mr Coates a bottle of champagne to christen the new bridge with it. It was with a show cd’ ri luctanue that Mr Coates balanced the bott’.e in his hand. “Haven’t you got an empty one?" he asked. Air Bidton: “Has any lady or gentleman go* a dead marine? (Laughter.) It’s got to bp done. ladies and gentlemen." Tlie Premier turned to perform the fell deed, but again paused reluctantly. ‘‘Has anyone got a dixie?" But no Digger could oblige. ‘‘Well, I don’t like doing it. but we’ll have to chris-t-i: this bridge thoroughly.’’ he remarked. as he aimed the blow, after several ’ap-. Mr Coates also showed similar reluctance with the champagne bottle at Alangatainoka. saying: “It’s Hie hardest job 1 have had to d«» for a long time. 1 don't like it a bit.” ( Laughte )
