Dr Borland's Visit. i CrEF'S? MOUTH EXAMINATIONS. 1)1 J. E. Borland, F.R.C.0., the Examiner for the Board of Trinity Col lege of Music, London, arrives in Grevmouth on July 8, and during the en suing week he will conduct exaini’’’ ■ tions here on practical subjects, namely, pianofor'e, violin and singing. Dr Borland is also examiner for the Board in elocution and organ work. The examinations this year will be conducted at the studio of Miss Noonan, No. 19, High Street, and tutors are to arrange by phone with Mis< Noonan for the use of pianos. Dr Borland is a noted figure in the musical world, has written much on music, and- his compositions include School Songs and Church Music. His work as a lee urer is wellknown. Di John Ernest Boiland was born in London of Scottish parentage. His musical education was begun by private teachers and continued at the Royal College of Music. His chief studies have been the pianoforte, organ, and the French horn. He has also had experience of most of the oilier orchestral instruments. He 'ook the Degree of Doctor of Music, at Oxford, in 1906. Dr Boiland has he’d various posts, giving many educational courses and recitals. He has been Musical Adviser to the Education Department of the London County Council Hncc 1908. Dr Borland has acted, as Lecturer and Examiner for the' University of London since 1900, and has also examined at most of the schools of music. He has examined for diction and elocution for the Central School of Speech Training at the Royal Albert Hall, London; and for Scholarships at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. He is also a member of the Advisory Board and Examiner for he London University Diploma in Dramatic Art. j
