OPERA HOUSE—WEDNESDAY. <‘THE LADY IN ERMINE.” How would you decide if you were a bride of three Hours and your hus J band’s life was to be forfeited for his country, but you could save it by paying the highest price that can bo asked of womanhood? That is the situation that confronts Corinne Griffiths, as Countess Mariana Murillo, in her emotional drama of war, '“The Lady j Emtfne” which screens at the Opera House on Wed l nesday, matinee and night. Dealing with an incident that occurred during the war, the film gives the star an opportunity to appear in settings of regal magnificence in the role in which she is considered best fitted. Francis X. Bushman, Einar Hanson, Ward Crane, Charles Sellon, Jane Keckley and Bert Sprotte are in the cast. ROYAL AUSTRALIAN SUNBEAMS. OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. “Long after the Royal Australian Sunbeams have loft Dunedin” (says the Otago Daily Times), “pleasant memories of .their sparkling entertainment will be retained by theatregoers. They strike an entirely now note and constitute unquestionably the best and most polished troupe of juvenile performers that has visited the city. I.t is significant that the season in His Majesty’s Theatre has been followed by an engagement at the Princess Theatre, and on Saturday afternoon and evening it was obvious that .the previous appearances of the company had served to rouse a desire for a return of such excellent fare. The vaudeville theatre was packed at both sessions, and crowded houses should be assured for the remainder of the week. The brilliant performance offered is entitled “The Wedding of Baby Doreen.” The opening scene is prettily conceived, and shows the arrival of a diminutive wedding party that proceeds through the stalls and is welcomed on the stage by an excited band of guests. When the bride, groom, and attendants have taken their places the performance proper begins with a scintillating whirl, nor does it diminish in speed until .the last ensemble is announced and the ‘newly-wedded’ pair depart in a tiny motor car. The entertainment as a whole is worthy of the highest praise from every point of view, and may be compared favourably with the past offerings of companies composed of more mature members.” The Sunbeams will appear at the Opera House to-night, and again on Thursday nigh.t, and a special matinee is announced for Thursday afternoon.
The Company will also appear at Hokitika on Wednesday, and at Westport on Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26.
