LABOUR WORLD

REACTIONARY AUSTRALIAN BILL HUGHES ON THE KAIL. CANBERRA, May 19. Mr. Wiliam Hughes, resuming the debate on the Amendment Arbitration Bill, described the provision regarding strikes and lock-outs as the most dangerous piece of legislation conceivable. It was a sort of two edg' d weapon which would drive unionists into one big union to safeguard them selves against industrial civil war. The Attorney-General must .'ee that he could not imprison thousands of men, who defied the Government. The great danger to-day was Communism deliberately working on the malleable clay of society for the destruction of civilisation. They were .equally enemies of industrial unions. The Government should set up machinery to deal with men like Garden, as a surgeon with cancer. Mr. Hughes supported the Bill generally. The debate was adjourned.
