MAN WITH BACK BROKEN Sent Back from Canada A CASE OF HARDSHIP. AUCKLAND, May 19. A passenger to Auckland by the liner Aorangi due to-morrow, is Francis Raymond Hyde, a young New Zealander. I who left his native land a year ago to seek hi s fortune in Canada. He was employed on the farm of a wealthy man, and met with an accident. He was admitted to a Canadian hospital with a broken back. The Canadian Government official-, then decided to send him bark to New Zealand by the first available steamer. 'The New Zealand Immigration Department has informed Hyde’s friends that the matter docs not concern them in any way. Arrangements have been made to have the injured man landed and conveyed to the Auckland Hospital. ONLY £4O FROM EMPLOYER. AND REPATRTATION. AUCKLAND, May 20. The New Zealander, Francis Raymond Hyde, from Canada, arrived by the Aorangi to-day, and he is now in the Auckland Hospital. He comes from Gisborne, and js 25 years old. When he had been three weeks in British Columbia, he met with the accident, the vertibrae being crushed ami the spinal cord severed, completely paralysing the lower part of his body. Ho sought compensation, but the owner of the farm on which he was employed disclaimed any responsibility. lie, however, made Hyde a gift of £4O. Hyde was informed., after Government officials had visited him, that he would be returned to New Zealand.
