UNUSUAL PROSECUTION
— Against Da’ry Coy. CREAM GRADED HIGHER TO ATTRACT CUSTOM. AUCKLAND. April 20. < Allegations that Hie Taupiri Dairy I or, l.lfl, had graded cream advantagomisly to suppliers were made in the Police Court to-day, when the company yvas charged on eight counts with fail--ng to grade cream received from suppliers in accordance with the regulations. Air TTuLblo, who appeared for the Department of Agriculture, said firstgrade cream sent to the company by a client was placed in the finest grade, the result being that the supplier received a higher price. In one book the grader had entered cream as first grade, but it had been entered as finest in the office books. “This must have been done for the purpose of attracting custom,’’ said Air Hubble. Air Leary, representing the company, said the grader’s task was a difficult one, and results of grading often varied. For the eight, misgradings the supplier received an additional 9s 7d. There was no foundation for the suggestion that the company was endeavouring to attract business by favourable gradings. On the first charge the company was fined 20g, and 10s on each of the other 1 seven charges, together with costs.
