NOTES ON THE TROTTEBS.
TO DAY’S ADDINGTON PROSPECTS (Bv Original.) It started raining on Monday a. Christi hnreh about 8 a.m., anil eontinneil all d:iv. Otherwise, then' would have been a good bit of training work at Addington, bv horses that did not imeo <>n Saturday. In regard tn the first dav’s racing, though we have had a fine spell of real autumn weather, it broke on Saturday just as the trotting started, and kept on stemlily almost all d:iv, qnicklv putting the track in a bad state, especially the newly formed part. Tin'- bracketed pair. Sarsaparilla and Great Amazon, ended up first, choice for the opening event, the Preliminary Handicap of 11 mil s. with a 3.34 limit. Nelson Bov ami Kempton, who were off the end. began well, and they wenill the lead all the way. The former led into the straight, but the latter b at him in the run I'.omo. Katute. also ofi llic ('ini, disgraced herself by cantering away, and she never settled down till all i banco was gone. Sen Qu. on never wont right at any part of it, and was never dangerous. Tinv Moon was never seen. Sarsaparilla was always well placed, anil just hung on long enough to get third moliev from the fast finishing Real the Great. Great Amazon broke up badly. Burnio was only promin ut in the earlv stages. Nelson MeKinney hail everv chance, lie began well, and was always handy to the leaders, but faded out of it over th? (•oncluding stages. The race should do Kilin good. H ■ finished fifth. Ilerbilwin was always well enough plan d had he been good enough, though over Hie last bit he went stride for stride with Real the Great, and finish d sixth. Real the Great, who started from 72 behind ran a stinging good race, and went 3.211 2-5. being only four lengths awav from Hie winner as the line was crossed. Lillie Logan, on 84. who is touched in the wind, with the unfavourable weather, was never seen. I Pan Yan ended up first selection tor the Fimd.-ilton llamlieap. a mile sad-llc race, with a 2.15 limit. lie was a good way back in the early stages, but finished .fast over Hie last bit. and just cut Rosie Nut out of third money. Fashion Qu en. Harry Audubon. Queen’s General. General Bingen and Darknite were never seen, or dangerous,’ on the trip. ' Suggestion was fairly well placed, and by a good late run s cured second money anil a good dividend. Rosie Nut began well, but was only in front till halfway. Dingen Lad began well, ami was quickly in second berth, took charge half a mile from home, ami though stopping over the concluding stages, had enough to spare to win by a length. J an McFJwyn was never nearer than when she linished sixth. Countryman ran a real good race from 48 behind, finishing fifth. He went 2.11 2-5. f The good livid of li started in the Easter Handicap, for which Logan Park was entrusted with most money, but though lit* went away all right, he broke Up wh n only a furlong had been covered, and was never seen afterwards. He was driven by C. Dunleavv. as \V. J. Tomkinson is very bad, and it will be many days, if ever, he drives again. Riocoli r-fused to leave the ma.k. Golden Devon and Pinto were responsible for carrying on the running over the tirst 1] miles. Then Golden • I)evon ret ired. Author .links did not hanule the going well, and was never in the first half-dozen. Taurekareka was running third over the first quarter, but lost hi> position, and was not seen again till tn •concluding stages, when Withers shoL him up on the extreme outside, and stole th * race from Berry, driving Machine Gun. I’eterwah was early well placed, and was still in third position wncn H miles had been covered, but tue going tied him up over the last bit, and Im was not in tlte first half-dozen as the post was reached. Talaro ran a good '.ace. He was not well placed earlv, but was in fourth position when they passed the mile post the last time, and he finished there. Acron was well enough placed eaily but did not go on with it Black Admiral never threatened danMachine Gun. I crPcul. should have won when Berry had Waitaki Gjrl settled, about a furlong from home, but he eased his horse, and Withers dashed up on the extreme outer with Taurekareka. Berry could not get Machine Gun g«ng again, and was beaten by a narrow margin. Just a c! ar case of caught napping. Queen’s Own, though responsible for some stinging good track work lately, could not handle the going, and the best she could do was finish sixth. Loganwood started 14th favourite, and ran accordingly. Dalnahine never got near the front. J. Brvce tried to win too far from home with W’aitaki GM. from 60 yards behind. When they had gone miles, with six furlongs to gx he rushed her past Machine Gun, 1 lut7 and Peterwah, and she led till the distance, wb.ere she tired, and could only finish third. Had Bryce kept his run till a quarter of a mile from home, instead of three-quarters of a mile, there is no doubt she would have been first or second. Prince Pointer was never seen. Jack Potts was not prominent over the first 1| miles, but finished on fast, j and ran sixth, going the last half-mile • very fast. Daphne De Oro ended up favourite < for the Express Handicap of two miles, with a 4.36 limit. , Harold Burwood made the early ruu-J.
ning, but bored badly, and quickly settled any chance he had. Avenger was always well placed after half a mile had been covered, and in a splendid finish the favourite just beat him. Ariki, W’illiam the Great, and Billy Sea ran disappointingly. Epigram ran well for 14 miles. Dalmeny, better handled, would have won. The going was just to his liking, but like J. Bryce with Waitaki Girl, he tried to win too far from home, with the result that he was driven to a standstill, ami could not see the last wee bit out. He was just beaten by Peter Swift for third. Daphne De Oro was splendidly driven by F. G. Holmes, and. though only a pony, she dashed through the mud and dust over the concluding stages, and beat Avenger. Billy Sea was not unduly knocked about, ami I won’t be surprised to see him run a much better race, whatever he starts in, on Wednesday. Shine Soon went a bett r race than most of them. For some unknown reason, Petroleuse ended up favourite for the Autumn Handicap of two miles, with a 4.42 limit. She had every chance and was out in front till half a mile from home, when she gradually fell back and finished sixth. Nourmahal was never furth t back than third, and finishing on bet’ \ than expected in the bad going, o< \|ied that position at the close. Audobill went a solid race wav, but Cannonball beat him at the finish. Our Lady could not handle th - going. Red Cat, who was second choice, was never seen. Clonmel was handy most of the way, but failed over the last three furlongs. Frisco Beau was never in the first half-dozen. Cannonball was in good position early. and won nicely over the concluding stages. He could have gone much better if wanted. Duke Bingen was in front when they had gone miles, but could not see the journey out. anil finish'd fifth. Master Ando was 12th favourite, and ran accordingly. Native Star ran a good race, finishing close up, fourth. Elzear did not begin well, and was never seen. Acre was made a hot proposition for the Belfast llamlieap of 1} miles, with a 2.53 limit but was never dangerous, and eventun 11 v finished fifth. Lochree ami Horotane were bracketed. Horotane was never seen, while Lochree could not beat the moderate Wenlo. Lord Bingen, Logan Lad, Yoicks, Albert Logan, Arran Chief and Native Queen were never prominent at any part of itWenlo was racing second to Asset when a round had be n gone, and, revelling in the going, and being driven light out. won by three lengths. Asset had every chance, but wa.i tied up by the going. Golden Sun went a fair race for 7 furlongs. Macanda was prominent ov?r tho last stages. Lulu Lad was never in the first half-dozen. Daisy Pointer went all right for a mile; then she got the , stitch. Sahib was never dangerous. Fashion Queen lost a lot of ground at the start, but finished very fast to g»*t third. Mate o’ Mine was a hot order for the Wilkin Handicap of two miles, with a 4.36 limit, but though well placed early, failed to finish in the first halfdozen. Wairua. Rebel, Theckla Buy, l ady Matchlight and Alvira played up at tlie start, and lost all chances. Kreisl.r gave a poor showing, but will do better before the meeting closes.
Sadie Huon went a solid race, and was unlucky to meet such a good one as Sarella, who looked to have no chance half a mile from home. Burcaith was prominent for about a round. He will go better next Mau Dillon was in a prominent when 14 miles were gone. Heet-Cr’s Own ran a good race, and finished fifth. Drum Withers also tried to win too far from home with Milo, w’.h the same result as Waitaki Girl and Dalmeny. She was beaten over the last 150 yards, and finished fourth. Harvest Child went a good race, ami may do better than the third he got (»n Saturday, before the meeting closes. High Jinks was well placed early, but the going tied him up. Diamond Child, the second favourite, n ver looked like winning. Jolly Pet, off 72 yards, went a stinging good race, and finished sixth. St Maura ended up a better favourite than Logan Chief and Trimmer for the concluding event, the Flying Handicap. a 1 1 mile race, with a 2.47 limit. Bob Logan and Trimmer did not go off well, whil • Pluto also was slow in getting away. Kotuku Jack was prominent over the early stages. Honour Bright was never seen. Hue Coronado began very fast, and led over a mile, but tired in the run home, and finished fourth. Hu- Coronado should go well in the Mile Saddle on Wednesday off the end. Pluto, after beginning slowly, finished very fast for third money. He will bear watching. Willie Logan stayed i n better than must people expected, to get second. Logan Chief began well, and was always going like a winner. Once in the straight, he quickly settled Willie Logan, and won easily. St Maura began slowly, and could not make up her leeway. She will go better uu Wednesdav.
