THEFT OF £990. WELLINGTON, March 28. Robert Sproull Hutton Menzies (48) pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court today to the theft if £990 from the firm of Seott and Menzies, in which he was joint managing director. Menzies had been in financial difficulties from the commencement, of the business in 1926 amt had. used the firm’s money for his own purposes by making out fictitious dockets, to meet which cheques were drawn. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed. A YOUNG DOUBLE DEALER. AUCKLAND, March 28. A youth named Athol Henry Deightou was committed to Borstal for three years by Mr. McKean, S.M., on a charge that on March 14, he received fifteen pounds from a piano dealer, as a loan on his father’s piano, and three days later, sold, it to another dealer for twenty-five pounds. INDECENT ASSAULT CHARGE. PALMERSTON N., March 28. William Alfred Te Mokino Walden, aged 26 years, a dairy factory employee, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial this morning, on charges of indecently assaulting and carnally knowing fifteen-ycafflold girl at Kairanga on September 30, and January 21 respectively. GROCER CHARGED. PALMERSTON N., March 28 Stephen Gough (31) grocer, was committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering a house at Palmerston on March 25, with intent to commit a crime.

BETTING FINE. DUNEDIN, March 28. At the Police Court, Ernest Percy Dell, was fined £25 for bookmaking. The- police stated that accused was fined £lOO at Oamaru in 1924, for a similar offence, but apparently had done nothing since till the recent Oamaru meeting. Counsel suggested, that as he was married, With four children, the offence be held over his head for twelve 'months, but the Magistrate said this would be inviting men to have a trial run at bookmaking.
