Hignett, of the Greyniouth Railway staff, left for Christchurch yesterday on holiday. Mr and Mrs W. Baxter, who have been on a visit to the West Coast, returned yesterday to Dunedin. Captain Strachan, of the Harbour Board staff, left by yesterday’s express on a visit to Christchurch. Mr T. Smith, of Ah aura, who is a patient at the Greymouth Hospital, continues to make favourable progress. Mr H. F. Nicoll is shortly resigning from the position of Director of the Canterbury School of Art. Brigadier Wallace, Salvation Army head at Christchurch, is being transferred to Auckland. Mr S. Trotter, Engineer to the Grey Power Board, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, has returned to Greyinouth. Mr George T. Booth, of Christchurch, has been chosen by the employers as their representative on the Arbitration Court in succession to Mr Wm. Scott. ft The death is announced from Perth 'of Sir Alfred Dangler, Governing Director of the newspaper West Australian, aged 68 years. Mr F. O’Brien, who has been railway Stationmaster at Runanga, left yesterday on transfer to Palmerston South as chief clerk, accompanied by Mrs O’Brien. Mr Sydney Evelyn Wright, Secretary of the Auckland Employers’ Association. has been elected to the position of deputy employers’ representative on the Arbitration Court. Mr D. C. Chalmers, solicitor, of Whakatane, has consented to submit his name for selection as a candidate for the Tauranga seat in the Labour Party’s interest. Mr L. M. O’Sullivan, formerly Stationmaster at Arthur’s Pass, is taking a similar position at Heathcote. Mr W. Tritt, formerly of Morrinsvillc, takes Mr O’Sullivan’s place at Arthur’s PassMr W. Winchester, who has been acting as manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Hokitika, during the absence of Mr A. N. Baker, and Mrs Win Chester, left by yesterday’s express for Christchurch. Mr J. I. Burrows, a member of the All Black team to South Africa, has been granted leave of absence from the Christchurch Boys’ High School during the period of the tour. His place on the staff will be taken by Mr T. D. Holmes. The death is announced from Sydney of Rev James Richard Murray, the well known Methodist minister, and Maori War veteran. He had charge of a mission at Christchurch till 1906, when he came to Australia. He was aged 65. Recent arrivals at the Albion Hotel include: Mr and Mrs Swift, Mr and Mrs Glenn (Ohio). The residents and children of Bcwa nui presented their late teacher, Mr P. 1. Gillin, with a handsome gold watch as a token of their appreciation and good feeling. Lieut Commander Lang, 8.N., has arrived at Wellington from England to take up the post of staff officer at Wellington. He has been lent to the New Zealand Government for three years from February 3rd. His last service was as first lieutenant-commander in the Benbow and Champion. Sir Benjamin Fuller arrived yesterday at Christchurch from Bluff, and goes north to-day. His visit from Australia is in connection with the Gonzales Italian Grand Opera Coy, which is now playing to big houses in Sydney, and will come to New Zealand in July. A London cablegram states that Sir Truby King, after spending three weeks investigating the mothercraft centres of Britain, will make a. five weeks’ tour of the Continent. He attends a reunion of nurses’ meeting on Wednesday, and the Boyal tea party at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. The following are guests at Bevington’s Hotel: —Mr and Mrs Meldrew, Mr Buck ell, Mr and Mrs Seyrett (London), Mr Stewart, Mr J. Lee, Mr Proctor (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Clarke, Mr Chambers (Wellington), Mr and Mrs Johnston (Wellington), Mr Bankin (Sydney), Miss Witty (England), Mrs Witty (England), Miss Johnston (Wellington). The Governor General, Sir Charles Fergusson, took part in the yacht race on the Waitemata Harbour on Saturday for the cup presented by himself. He sailed in Messrs B. B. and S. S. Wilson’s Ariki, which obtained second place in the event. The winning yacht was Mr W. P. Endean’s Prize, the lorangi coming third. His Excellency was accompanied by his military secretary, Captain E. P. O. Boyle. The death occurred suddenly at 12.30 yesterday morning of Mr Charles Bumble, who for the past 2| years carried on the occupation of billiard marker at the Federal Saloon, Albert Street. The deceased, who was a native of America, was 63 years of age, he having been a resident of the Coast for some

35 years. He enjoyed a wide circle of friends,, and his death will be regretted by many. Deceased leaves a widow and one child to mourn his loss. Air J. N. Harle, who in 1925 contested the Ashburton seat, has received a request from the former Ellesmere electorate, which, with a portion of Ashburton, has been formed into the MidCanterbury electorate, to represent that district at the next election as the Labour candidate. /The question yet to be decided by the Labour Representation Committee is in regard to which district the new Mid-Canterbury electorate stands. - The Timaru Committee considers that it is in its district, while the North Canterbury Committee considers that it is in its district.

A Blenheim press wire states that cabled advice has been received of the death at Bordighera, in Italy, of Mr George Turner Seymour, a well known Marlborough pastoralist, who, accompanied by his wife, left last June on an extended tour of Europe. Air Seymour’s health had been very bad for a long time. He was 66 years of age, and was the. eldest son of the late Air A. P. Seymour, a former Superintendent of Marlborough Province, and a member of Parliament. Air J. T. Seymour devoted himself to pastoral pursuits, and took no part in political life, but he was a great athlete, and will be remembered among old rowers as th? stroke of the famous Seymour four, several times second in the champion fours race, also representing New Zealand in the inter-state fours in Australia. He is survived by a widow and three brothers.. Alessrs Walter Seymour, of Havelock; Arthur Seymour, of Ngakuta, Queen Charlotte Sound, and F. G. Seymour, of Woodville; and by two sisters, Mrs J. B. Richardson and Aliss Seymour, of Pieton. Airs Seymour is Provincial Commissioner in the Girl Guides movement.
