PAHIATUA. March 27. Fire at one o’clock this morning gutted an eight-r-oomed house owned by Mrs. W. Eager, Wellington, and occupied by Mr. W. A. Tapp, hides and skin representative. The fire had a big hold, the family, which includes five young girls, escaping in their night attire. Insurance on the contents wks £2OO (New Zealand). The residence was old and insured for £325 (State). Beside the family, there was a boarder named A. O’Neill. LEVIN, March 27.

Fire at half-p-ast twelve last night destroyed a five-roomed house at Shannon, owned by E. A .H. Osborne,, and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. F. Buckman and family. The occupants retired at half past eleven, and everything appeared all right. An hour later, Buckman was awakened by smoke. He hastened to a_back room where a young boy was sleeping, and found flames bursting through the ceiling and the boy still asleep. He just had time to jpiek the lap up with a few clothes, and hurry out with him. His wife and daughter escaped with the cloflies they could gather in the flight. The building was insured, but particulars are not available. The furniture was insured, but particulars are not available The furniture was insured for £l5O. CAMBRIDGE March 27. About 3.30 this morning a block of wooden buildings in Duke Street, owned bv Bread and Broad, was partly destroyed by fire. Shop premises occu l ied by .Tamos Kidd, saddler, and rear living rooms occupied by Mrs. Ra - ford, were completely destroyed. By the splendid efforts of the Brigade, portion of the 'buildings occupied by JBroad and Broad, grocers and iron mongers, was saved. Insurances on the building were £740, Brand's stoex £4OO ((both Sun Office). Mrs Bad ford’s household goods £350. Kidd s stock was totally destroyed, and «s valued at £lBO.
