MR NELSON’S FAREWELL

Message to Samoa Th© Hon. O. F. Nelson sailed by thc Mauuganui, en route for Geneva. Before his departure he sent a farewell message to JSauioa. Part of the English translation runs as follows: — Thanks b e to God that our di ar country has been ever kept in his love. L wish to express my joy in that the chiefs and orators and the whole of thc people have been patient under the hardships and troubles which have been endured and that the peace may be kept. May it be so until the end. My work in New Zealand has been thoroughly completed. My petition is about to be handed in to the New Zealand for them to forward to the League of Nations. I am fully confident. your petition, signed by all of you, will be in hand in thc coming month of April, so that, together with my own petition, it will be in time for the meeting of the League of' Nations to be held in Geneva in the month of June. May the hopes of our little country be realised and the matter on which you have set your hearth be accomplished in that mce.ting. Let us trust in God. Though in exile in these distant lands, I find it impossible for my faith to wane in the righteousness of the cause of our people. I therefore move in the confident hope that the day will soon come* when we will see the loving hand of God in this matter. To him shall we give praise.
