Reefton’s danger from lack of water in case of fire has been removed by the fitting of one of the reservoirs by a pump installed by the County Council. The pump was lifted from the bottom of a shaft at the Prohibition Mine, and was got going within twelve hours.

A statement in the report to the Power Board last evening by its Acting Engineer (Mr R Langbein) was to the effect that a gauge placed at Lake Hoehstetter reveals the lake to have been falling continuously since it was first observed early this month, whilst Lake Brunner at present is only nine inches above 'its lowest recorded level, the Arnold River being only a couple of inches above its lowest record.

During the six weeks ending on Saturday last, the highest half-hourly peak load of the Grey Power Board was between 8.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday, March Ist. It was 730 kilowatts. The Grey Power Board last evening, on the motion of the Chairman, Mi J. W. Greenslade and Mr C. Uddstrom, decided to send a letter of thanks to the Greymouth Sisters of Mercy foi their kindness in decorating thc Board’s lorry for the .Jubilee procession, the Chairman stating a very fine tableaux representing Ireland had been arranged on the occasion. The Board also resolved on the motion of Mr Kent and the Chairman to extend its congratulations to the staff for the manner in which they had carried out the street illuminations during the Diamond Jubilee, which thc Chairman stated were excellent, especially in view of the fact that some requisites had not come to hand from the Government, and the staff, had not had much time to meet the emergency, in spite of which they made a wonderfully good display.

The Grey Power Board last night resolved to ask the West land Power Board and Mr J. S. Langford. Engineer of the Wesland Power Coy., if an investigation of the Company’s water supply may be at present made by the Grey Board’s Engineer in order to ascertain its possible capacity to supply power for the Grey Board. The Chairman Mr J- W. Greenslade, in putting the resolution said such ar. investigation at this juncture would give a reliable indication as to what reliance this Board could place on the Westland installation in the event of iTs requiring to purchase power. Other members said that upon the result of this request would depend the possibility of doing any business with the West!and people. A meeting of the newly-formed United Athletic Sports Club was held a! .the United Pavilion last evening, a large ami enthusiastic gathering being present. Mr J. Guy presided.
