These included a solid gold watch that cost £3O many
years ago, and a gold chain, a beautiful cameo brooch, two bracelets, a gold lock engnyved ajnd in'itialled. and chain, and a purse containing a few shillings. All were in a jewel case in Mrs Pascoe’s bedroom. Nothing elso was disturbed. The burglary points to someone who knew Airs Pascoe possessed Ihe jewellery and where it was kept.
That committees were inventions uf the Evil One to prevent real -work from being done was the opinion expressed by the Rev O. J. Tucker at a meeting of the Southland Presbytery (says the Times). “If you want something done, appoint one man to do it. Give it to a committee and it will never be properly done,” were the minister’s words.
“Have you ever been mistaken for another boy?” asked Air A. C. Hanlon of a lad who was a witness in a criminal case heard at the Supreme Court in Timaru this week (reports the Herald). The witness’s supposed double was brought ‘into the court and the question was repeated. “No, I haven’t been mistaken for him,” said the witness, “but he may have been mistaken for me. ’ ’
