Nelson Creek Sporting Club
The Nelson Creek Sporting Club held its annual meeting on Wednesday last, a large number attending, and a keen interest was taken in the business. The
annual balance sheet was received and adopted as very satisfactory. Officers for the year were duly elected as follows: —Patron, Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P.; President, Mr W. Fisher, J.P.: Vice-Presidents: Mr J. Nyberg, Mrs O’Brien, Mr A. Donnellan, Mr 11. Williams, Mr J. Campbell, Mr J. Becker, Mr W. Holt, Mr T. Fox, Mr D. Armstrong, Mr Campbell, Miss Ainsley, Mr W. Blackmun. Mr W. Kells, Mr A. Dalziel, Miss O’Sullivan, Mr James, Mr W. Ryan, Mr C. Senior, Miss Fitzpatrick, Mr W. Ward, Mr Dumpleton, Dr Ray; Joint Secretaries, Messrs A. Galbraith and V. Foxon; Executive: Messrs 11. Ord, W. Casey, C. Smith, W. Fisher, Junr, F. Chaplin, M. O’Brien, and J. Tibbles. A General Committee was formed of all present at the meeting. It was decided to leave over until this week the formation of the several Committees to bo selected for the forthcoming St Patrick’s Day Sports. A lengthy programme of eveues was drawjn up ■ leaving nothing to be desired, the
prize money for the various events, amounting to over £l5O. It was decided to ask Mr G. E. Perkins to be handicapper of the running events, and Mr Rex Fitzgerald of the axemen’s events. It was agreed to endeavour to get the Blackball Band to play selections on the ground during the sports. As St Patrick’s Day falls on Saturday, March *7O, only fine weather is required to ensure a record attendance. A grand ball is to be held in the evening, as a fitting wind-up to a gala day. The people of the district should make arrangements accordingly, and be determined not to miss the Nelson Creek Sports. Refreshments are obtainable on the ground, under the experienced supervision of a Eadies’ Committee. There are events for everyone, old and young, besides the strenuous events for the champion athletes. Side shows, with their competitions, wherein all can take part, are included. The Domain will be the place for all to come to at Nelson Creek on the 17th of March, a scene of life and sparkle. Come and see the chips Ily when the axemen get to it! The running track is being well looked after, so that the cracks will have a chance of breaking records. There are to be tugs-of-war for heavyweight, middleweight and lightweight teams. Even tin* tired am. elderly has a chance of showing the young fry how he knocked the wickets flying when he played for his side. The events are so numerous that they cannot all be enumerated, but they will be recorded more fully before the 17th of March. Nelson Creek is the place to spend St Patrick’s Day.
