N.Z- Ladies' Success AT N.S.W. TOURNAMENT. SYDNEY, February 12. The ladies’ swimming carnival waJ held in warm, bright weather. The Hundred yards championship of New South Wales resulted: — Ena Siockley (New Zealand) .. 1 .loan Cocks (Bondi) 2 B. Taw (Sydney) 3 Aliss Stockley set a hot pace from an even start, and had a comfortable lead at the end °t' fifty yards, with the others almost in line. The New Zealander then went further ahead and never looked like being beaten, winning most comfortably. It was obvious throughout the race that the pace of Miss Stockley was out of the ordinary. Tier time (1.6 15) was only one-fifth of a second outside the Australian record. held by Fanny Durack. The 440yds New South Wales Championship resulted:— K. Aliller (New Zealand ) .. .. 1 E. Davey 2 B. Taw 3 Aliss Davey led in the early part of the race from’Aliss Aliller, b *ng three yards ahead at 220 yanls, bul before the swimmers reached 330 yards. Miss Alillep began to move up, and putting on a prenomenal burst, caught Miss Davey twenty-five yards from the finish. There was a desperate struggle to touch, the New Zealander gaining the judges’ verdict though many spectators were under the impression that it was a dead heat. Aliss Taw was 12 yards away. Timo 6.3 9-10—half a second slower than Fanny Durrack’s Australian record. Ella Smith won the State diving championship.
FIVE MILE SWIM. ACROSS AUCKLAND HARBOUR. AUCKLAND, February 12. J. D. Foster, 53 years of age, a member oi the Ponsonby Swimming Club, was successful in swimming across the harbour to-day. He left Point Chevalier at midday and expected to arrive I at Devonport, a distance of about fiv.e miles, somewhere in the vicinity of, | tour o’clock. However, he landed at Devonport beach at 3.15 p.m. He was given hearty cheers by a crowd of watchers. CHRISTCHURCH VETERAN. WINS 50 YARDS CANTERBURY CHA MPTONSHIP. CHRTSTCHT'RCH. February 12. At the carnival held by the East Christchurch Swimming Chib, the veteran. C. Atkinson, won the 50 yards championsrip of (anherbury beaming* D. P. Lindsay very comfortably. R. Floyd was third.
