FARMING NEWS.

NAPIER WOOL SALE. A DECIDED ADVANCE. NAPIER, January 16. A cheerful air pervaded at the opening of the third Napier wool sale tonight, and almost from the initial bid f it was apparent that cheerfulness was to be justified. There was almost an all-round improvement on the recently held Wellington sale, estimated at id, and a decided advance on the last local sale. It was unmistakably apparent that buyers were anxious to secure wool and, if not prepared to go to extremes to purchase it, they were, at least, willing to pay more than previously. The catalogue consists of £28,000 bales, and of the first 12,000 sold tonight, there was a negligible number passed. This, of course, was occasioned by the quality of the particular wool offered, which was high. The lots were of such variety as to suit all operators on the market, consequently Bradford and the Continent were operating freely, while American concerns were represented, and local buyers were loth to keep the pace.
