The Tasman Sea flight is unlikely to start for the next two days, as the New Zealand airmen are awaiting a change in the prevailing dull weather. A Westport wire commends the north beach in that vicinity as a landing place, recalling its use for a long period some four years ago by Captain Buckley. It might be mentioned that the same airman used the Greymouth beach just a few times also, without smashing his plane to pieces. There was also an earlier aeroplane landing in the Westport district! Westport is certainly more in line as between Sydney and Wellington, so much so in fact that the difference may seem rather too slight to the airmen to make any difference in their choice of an alternative to Wellington.

Yesterday saw the extension by the Railway Department of the service from Glenhope to Murchison, in the Nelson district. A contract Ims been let to Messrs Spiers and Sons to deal with the traffic between Murchison a.ul Glenhope. there being depots between the two places, corresponding with railway flag stations, where goods are to be picked up. This certainly means getting in ahead of private motor comp dition. Don’t start the New Year with a grouch. It doesn’t matter a cuss if you backed the wrong gee-gee. Do a grin and forget it —that’s the best philosophy. You can easily mend your busted exchequer with a little careful economy—the year’s young yet. And don’t forget you must eat, particularly greens and juicy fruits. You need them to tone up the system after the holidays. Practice economy here by buying your fruit, etc., at the “Model Shop.” The fruit is good-oh! And the prices are better. You’ll back the winner sure if you do this.—West Coast Fruit Co., Mawhera Quay (next Albion Hotel). “To see is to buy.” —Advt.
