GRAND JURY RESOLUTION. REMOVAL FROM RECORDS. LONDON. January 6. The Grand Jury at Birmingham carried a resolution expressing tbe opinion that convictions recorded against
soldiers and sailors, killed in the Great War, should be erased. The Recorder, Sir Henry Maddocks, said that the idea appealed to him In common justice, it might also be urged that living ex—service men should receive similar treatment. A free pardon did not remove the record, which needed an act of Parliament.
Danish butter was selling on Friday in London at £8 2s to £8 4s per ewt, or an increase of 2s per cwt on the previous week, and £1 per cwt dearer than New Zealand bitter. Dalgety and Coy’s quotations were: Danish 182 s to 184 s. N.Z. finest salted 160 s to 1645, finest Australian unsalted 164 s to 1665, finest Australian salted 156 s to 160 s, Australian G.A.Q. 150 s to 1545. The market is quiet.
Many people were yesterday disappointed when it was learned that the • lasman Sea flight had been postponed. 1 I he opinion was expressed that in any event the plane would be likely to land at the first convenient place sighted if it came to the West Coast, rather than to pick out Greymouth in particular. No doubt, however, the matter <»f obtaining a speedy supply of suitable petrol would dispose the airmen to make their choice of a landing place '\ith that object in view, provided their supply in hand were not too limited to extend the flight after reaching the ■ oast, the latest advice goes to show ’hat the flight may start to-day or tomorrow. as the first favourable oppor’unity is being taken to hop off.
