FOR AMSTERDAM. BRITISH OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION’S DECISION. (Received . .ovomber 29 at 10.50 p.m.) (A. and N.Z. Assn, and Sun Cable). LONDON, November 29. The Council of the Olympic Association has decided to send an official team to Amsterdam, believing the best interests of sport would be thus upheld. Mr Richdale presided over an attendance of forty members who discussed the 12,011 resolution, after which he made a statement that they did not intend to shelve the question of broken time. The next Congress would hnd Britain fighting on behalf of amateur sport. The Council felt that as a large majority of governing bodies desired to participate at Amsterdam, and so remain loyal to their international federations, no effort should be spared to succeed. The international federations not countenancing broken time., should be supported. In fact Britain supported them now, and they would be encouraged by Britain’s delegates’ protests when the Federations considered the question.
The Council carried a resolution unanimously opposing the participation of “broken timers” in any guise. TheExecutive Committee had no power to depart from the Prague .Congress principles of amateurism. The Council, appealing for financial support, declares it is unhesitatingly pursuing a policy 2o secure world-widle- support for amateurism, and will endeavour to have steps taken to ban “broken timers” in future Olympiads. The Congress will appoint a committee to interpret its decisions.
