Premier’s Statement.

Mr Coates made a statement just before midnight. He said that be had decided to go on with the Licensing Bill. He stated compromise had been effected on every point, but that of the bare majority; but no quarter was given by supporters of the tw<* issue, bare majority poll.

Mr. Coates made it clear that his personal view remained un<nv.agcd, and be divested himself 01 responsibility for the passage of measure in its present form. The Government is going on with the Arbitration Bill.
