A PLIMMERION TRAGEDY.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 28.

A young man, William Nimmo, fill between the carriages at Plimmerton on Saturday evening, and was killed instant*? n .ously. He was only 21, and intended staying at the seaside. The accident is stated to have occurred through Nimmo leaving the Jtrain while still in motion. A number of other week-end accidents are also reported, (’has. Rawlinson, an inmate of the Home of Compassion, dozed off while smoking in a dormitory in the grounds, set his bedding alight, and was severely iburned. i A small boy, J. Pointon, was knocked down by a lorry, which passed over both legs and inflicted serious injuries.

Reg Case, a child of seven, pulled a motor cycle over, and broke his left leg.

The lever of a motor cycle broke, i and threw the driver, AV. Harrison, ami a passenger, Chas. Neilson (21), to the ground. The latter was badly hurt, and had to undergo an operation. His condition is serious. Harrison was injured about the head. FATAL CYCLE COLLISION. AUCKLAND, November 28. As the result of a collision between two motor cycles at Otahuhu on Sunday, Henry George Shephan Shepherd, 53, of Howick, died in the hospital. The other cyclist, Ernest Rodgers, of Remuera, escaped unhurt. EX-M.P.’s TRAGIC END. WAIKUPURAU, Nov. 28. The body of Charles Lewis, a resident and settler of the district, formerly M.P. for Christchurch and Courtenay;, was found, this morning outside the window of a room of his home, with a rifle between his logs, a shot having passed through the mouth and the back of the head. Lately he had been in a weak state of health. The family heard the shot fired about seven o’clock, death being instantaneous. He leaves a widow, four daughters and three sons. BOWLER’S SUDDEN DEATH. NELSON, November 28. The death occurred suddenly at the Nelson bowling green this afternoon, during play, of an elderly bowler, Mr 11. C. Jacka. Deceased was well known in bowling circles in New Zealand. DOUBLE FATALITY ON RAILWAY WORKS. DUNEDIN, November 28. A blasting accident which resulted in the deaths of two men, named Andrew Kydd and William Hopwood, occurred at the Railway duplication works near Ravensbourne at 4.20 p.ru. to-day. The accident was due to a premature explosion.

Kvdd, who was a. married man, aged about S!A years, with a grown'-up family. resided at Sawyer’s Bay, and was employed by the Railway Department as a casual quarry man. Ho was killed outright. Hopwood, who re-

ceived serious injuries to his head and face, was taken to the hospital where he died at 7.30. Hopwood 'was a

ganger employed by the Railway Department, aged about 40, whose wife lives at Riverton.

An inquest will be held. TOMAHAWK CLIFF TRAGEDY. DUNEDIN, November 28. At the inquest held this morning before Air IL W. Bundle, S.M., as Coroner. into the circumstances surroundMig the death of William James Patrick, who lost his life yesterday by falling 100 ft over the cliff at Tomahawk, a verdict was returned that deceased died from shock from injuries caused by falling oyer a cliff. HAWKER’S SUICIDE. GISBORNE, November 28. Shortly after five o’clock this afternoon, the body of a man named Ben Grieves, aged about 55 years, was found hanging in a back room in a small whare at Ngatapa. Deceased was a well-known hawker of drapery, and lived by himself. From appearances, it is considered the death occurred about a week ago. JOCKEY KILLED. AUCKLAND, November 28. A racccouise aciedent resulted in the death of the Jockey R, 11. Reilly, during the running of the Pakino Handicap (five furlongs) at Takap.ma today. Reilly was riding Nenzl Scholium’s, two year old filly White Wings, and by some means was unseated from his mount when the field had covered

about three furlongs. What actually happened is not definitely known although tt is Believed Reilly i was thrown against the course rails. At the time, AVhite Wings was running about seventh or eighth behind the loading bunch. She appeared to be getting a clean run and did not. fall herself. Reilly was killed instantly. His neck was broken and he also sustained severe injuries to his face and’ head.

The judicial committee of the Takapuna Jockey Club will hold an inquiry into the acicclent tomorrow afternoon.
