Rev. Father Jas. Maguire, of Christchurch, and formerly of Grey mouth, is at present here on a visit.

The New Zealand rep cricketer, C. C. Dacre, has accepted the offer from the Gloucestershire Club made to him while |on tour with she New Zealand team in England. He intend® to apply to the New Zealand Cricket Council for a transfer. He expects to leave in March and probably will be away at least four years. It is likely that Dacre will play Association football during the winter months is England.

The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Mary Jane De Freatus, wife of Mr. J. De Freatus, of the Railway Workshops staff. The deceased, who was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends, had been ailing for some time and lately had to enter the Grey River Hospital. She leaves two sons, ono being Mr. A. De Freatus, of the Railway Department, and the other (Hilton) being still at school. The bereaved husband and family will havf the sympathy of many friends in their loss. The funeral tains place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock.

The late Mr. Percy G. Morgan, director of the Geological Survey Department who died at Wellington a few days ago, was at one time from 1890 to 1895 engaged in coal miniug near Dunedin. He was a lecturer at the Thames School of Mines from 1890 to 1897, and Director of the Waihi School of Mines till 1905, when he joined the New Zealand ‘ Geological Survey Department, of which he was appointed Director in April, 1911. He was the author of numerous geological papers and bulletins collected with the Department. He was a native of Tasmania, but was educated at the Otago Bovs’ High School. Otago University, and the School of Mines. He was a Master of Arts, a Fellow of the Geological Society, and the New Zealand Institute.
