TALK OF SPLIT.

IN REFORM PARTY. • There is a peculiar uncertainty about the work which Parliam/ent has to accomplish before the end of the session. Serious doubts exist about the Licensing Bill, and there is almost certain to he more than the usual spirit shown.

Whether the measure returns or not Air. Coates own members threaten to split unless the Prime Minister places the Bill in the hands of the House and let members decide. “Tf he thinks he can get away with that he has made a big mistake,” said one Reformer, referring to Air Coates’ reticence in bringing the Licensing Bill back.

It is believed that an effort will he m?ide to go on with the Arbitration Bill when it is reported hack from tin* Labour Bills Committee. If this is so there will he another heated debate in the House, because Labour will not allow drastic, amendments to be made without a struggle. Just what form the Bill will return from the committee is difficult to predict, but speculating from the evidence it seems likely that the clauses likely to create most discussion are those relating to court and the exemption of the farming industry. The piece-work system is likely to bo approved by the committee and bv the House.

If the Samoan report comes down, although there is doubt about this, another day will bo added to the length of the session.

.It is learned that those controlling procedure, in the House have ahnest given up hope of getting out by th 1 (nd of this week, and are working toward Tuesday, November 29.

This week’s programme necessarily will embrac ■ a lot of washing-up legislation. and the usual final Bills, such as the Finance Bill, as well as the Suppiemen 1/ary ( Fil.ni Quota Bill, and Insurance Bill will also appear.
