Sterling cable transfers advanced to 487 13-16, the highest since 1914, with an extremely heavy turnover, the demand originating chiefly in London. The belief that gold will shortly move from New York to London has been strengthened. TIMBER STATISTICS. Imports of timber to the Dominion during September included 2,772.386 super feet of rough hewn and rough sawn timber, valued at £37,663, and 575,342 super feet of sawn dressed timber, valued at £74,100. Undressed round poles from Australia totalling 676,971 feet, ami valued at £10,626, and paling, laths, shingles and sleepers of a value of £2,272 also came into the country. Included in the rough sawn timber were 9,526 feet of ash and hickory, 35,943 feet of cedar. 1,032,253 feet of Douglas fir, 596,664 feet of ironbark, 197,261 feet of oak and 877,655 feet of redw’ood. The sawn dressed timbers included 312,464 feet feet of Douglas fir, 18,243 feet of spruce, 172,985 f-\*t for butter boxes and 62,979 feet tor cheese crates. Timber exported totalled 2,721,417 feet, valued at £32'i26 and included 368,564 fw't of rough sawn kauri, 508,413 feet of riinu, and .1,648,632 feet of white pine.
