MEETING IN HOSPITAL.

AUCKLAND, August 25. Last night, four members of the Avondale Borough Council gathered around the bedside of a fifth member, in a private hospital, to transact the business created by the exceptional circumstances in which the Council was placed by the sudden resignation of the Mayor and the remaining three members. Application was made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for sanction to fill the vacancies until the borough amalgamated with the city, or if this is impracticable, until the election held on September 15. The meeting lasted half-an-hour. Several resolutions were passed relating to the 1 essential work, and confirmation of 1 payments previously authorised by the minority.
