SHOPPING WEEK.

Greymouth “En FeteA Greymouth “ Shopping Week” has started with, a zip. Enthusiasm in the movement is keen, and all yesterday the streets were thronged with people who, in the beautiful sunshine which seems to have been sent especially for “Shopping Week” benefit, have been viewing the shop windows with keen appreciation. The shop-keepers have entered into the spirit of “Shopping Week” with an unbounded zest, and the efforts they have made in collection with the displays made in their windows is somewhat remarkable. Noticable among the window .exhibits is the fact that every window is bedecked with New Zealand and British goods, a reminder to buyers that goods manufactured in the Dominion or Britain are the equal in price and quality to those purchased in foreign countries. However good the displays are at present the shop owners intend to outdo themselves before the week is over., in making displays that have never before been equalled in Greymouth’s history. CompetititYns have been inaugurated by the traders under the headings of best —dressed Windows. Best All New Zealand display, Best All British Display, most comprehensive displays, most original windows, and best small shop display. Many of the windows are exhibiting articles of which the value has to be judged. Rules governing this competition can be obtained from all shops. There are 13 prizes to the total value of £5 for this competition. Brilliantly lighted shops at might time gave Greymouth a really citified appearance, and crowds continued to the streets, taking their full measure {of the unaccustomed spectacle of a “Brighter Greymouth” at night.
