THE WEATHER.

WELLINGTON, August 31. Mr Pemberton reports:—The present indications arc for strong and squally west to southwest winds, northwards of Kawhia and East Cape, and for southeast to southwest winds elsewhere. The weather will be cold, unsettled and showery, generally, but some heavy rain is expected about Cook Straits, and in the north-west districts of the South Island. A centre of low pressure, located in the vicinity of Cook Strait to-day is likely to pass east of N.Z. soon.
