7d PER DAY.

INDIAN MINERS’ COMPETITION. The annual meeting of the Indian Mining Federation (the coal-owners’ organisation), on May 25. revealed some interesting facts about the Indian coal situation. Like other coal-producing countries India is suffering from over production. While the pre-war production was 13,000,000 tons annually, to day it is about 25,000,000 tons. No fig urcs of pithead prices are available, but the morket price of best Indian coal is 28/- a ton. The Mining Federation has decided to commence selling coal in the Mediterranean ports and Japan, thus competing with European (and especially British) coal. To show the danger of this competition to the standards of British miners it is onl\ necessary to add that the wages of min ers in India are 7ld a day.
