IRISH ELECTIONS.
COSGRAVE’S LIGHTNING CAMPAIGN. LARKIN SPLITS LABOUR VOTE. I (Received August 31 at 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 30. President Cosgrave leaves Dublin today to open a whirlwind election campaign. He is determined, in spite of his not being in too robust health, to visit in six days as many centres as possible. Signs are not wanting that the most responsible elements in the Free State recognise that the Treaty and the Free State Constitution are emperilled. and that minor difficulties must be sunk.
Three of the Independents have taken the Ministerial Party’s pledge, and the rest of the Independents have scarcely less defintely ranged themselves behind President Cosgrave, whom the Farmers also solidly support. The Workers’ League, which is dominated by Mr James Larkin, has created difficulties for Mr Johnson (Labour Leader) by nominating candidates again, Labourites in Dublin, in Tipperary, and in Limerick, where the Labour vote will thus be spoilt.
