CUSTOMS RECORD.

For Greymouth. ONE FIRM PAYS NEARLY £5OOO. Last month Greymouth like several other centres established a new record in the matter of the amount of customs duty collected. The amount paid in from all sources reached a total ot no less than £10,240 16s 4d. The important factor in this substantial total has been the extra clearances of wines and spirits by Greymouth merchants. This was not much short of half the total customs in last month was paid by one firm, namely Al. AlcDonnell and Co., of Tainui Street. They headed the list with the high total of £4,729 3s 2d. an amount which doubtless will stand comparision with that paid by many of the largest firms in the main centres.
