AN EASY WIN. Durham Tail Wags. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, June 20. The New Zealanders beat Durham by ten wickets. In Durham’s first innings the ninth wicket added 195 runs. Coak and Brooks hitting up 115 of them in 110 minutes. Durham’s two tail-end men, Brooks Cnd Cook, had made a determined stand on Saturday, and on Monday they continued their sturdy defence. They surprised the New Zealanders by' their spirited play. Cook placed his strokes perfectly, though both bowling and fielding were most accurate and keen. The pair very nearly succeeded in saving a follow on. Cook passed the eentury and remained unbeaten. Durham, on going in again, began well, Nichol scoring 56 in breezy fashion in 50 minutes. At the tea adjounrment. only three wickets were down for eighty-three, but on resuming there was an amazing collapse. Cunningham, who had not taken a wicket in the first innings, and had generally been a failure so far, was the principal destroying agent. With Henderson, who only had one over, he wound up the innings in short order. Neither was assisted by the wicket and Cunningham bowled with real devil. The attendance was about 500. Commenting on the story from New Zealand published here that Dacre is likely to settle in England, the manager (Mr Hay) understands that the Aucklander has not made any engagement of the sort. At last evening’s meeting of the Management Committee of the N.Z. Cricket Council, cabled advice was received that New Zealand’s share of the gates at the matches in England were:— M.C.C. £124; Essex £115; Cambridge £9O, Middlesex £246; Royal Navy £42; Sussex £92. S. AUSTRALIAN VISIT TO N.Z. CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. At a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, some discussion took place on the advisability of inviting a Soucn Australian team next year.
Mr Winsor doubted the advisability of doing so. He considered that a New South Wales or Victorian team would always be a better attraction. It was decided to inquire if South Australia would accept an invitation to New Zealand in February and March next. It was decided to stress the fact that the inclusion of star players would be essential.
