CROSSING SMASH.

WONDERFUL ESCAPES. (Per Press Association). OAMARU, June 21. A level crossing smash occurred near Enfield this afternoon, when a goods train coming into Oam aru crashed into a Ford car driven by Harold Russell, of Rototuna, Waikato, accompanied by a lady passenger. When approaching the crossing, Russell slowed down, and thinking the line clear, he went ahead. The front wheels of the car were just on the line when the engine struck the front of the car, almost completely wrecking it. Neither Russell nor his companion was thrown out, and they had a remarkable escape from serious injury.
