The New South Wales amateur goi." championship was won by ApperTey, who defeated Smith in the final four up and three to play. As a previous winner in 1918, 1920 and 1922, Apperley had experience on his side against twenty-three-year-old runner-up. He was two up on the first round, but lost the two opening holes on resuming, but won the next, and gradually drew away. Both players drove consistently well. The putting was relatively good and comparatively even, but the winner excelled in his shots up to the green. DISABLED SCHOONER. SYDNEY, June 19. The schooner Louis Theriault, arrived in tow of a tug, sent to her assistance. The voyage from Whin gape occupied sixteen hours. CHINESE CREW MUTINOUS ON DERELICT.
BRISBANE, June 17. The steamer Proteus, in tow of the Crosskeys, arrived at port. The Proteus drifted helplessly with a broken rudder for ten days. The food and water had to be rationed. There was no wireless equipment. The officers had constantly to mount guard over the mutinous Chinese*screw.
