RUNANGA NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary meeting of the Runanga Borough Council was held in the Borough Office, the Alayor (Air McTag gait) presiding, and there being also present Councillors Atoms, Armstrong and Kennedy. The minutes were conlimed. as read, and outward correspondence was approved, while inward correspondence was dealt with as follows:—Vouchers from treasury £2 6/-, goldfield revenue £BO, lighting £3O, domain 6/-, fees and fines.-—Received. From P.W. Department, enclosing amended motor lorry regulations.—Received.
From Shannon Borough Council, c-n--losing the following resolution and asking this Council’s support in the matter: —That Local Bodies with a popu lation of 5000 ami under be comm in icated with, and asked for li.eir cooperation in bringing pressure on the Alain Highways Board for a, subsidy towards the construction of main high ways through such boroughs.” It was resolved that the Council strongly support this rc«olut’on and that the Member for this district be notified accordingly. At ’the same time, how over, pointing out to the Shannon Borough Council that, owing to the lack of funds here, it would bo impossible to attend a united deputation to the Alinister and the Main Highways Board. From the Secretary, Plunkct Society, thanking the Alayor and < ouncillors for £lO donation to Plunkct Society, per benefit concert.—Received.
From Health Department re serving notices re cleaning drain, to T. E Kennedy, J. Barnet and W. Rafi’crty. It was reported that this matter had already been attended to. From District Telegraph Engineer Christchurch, re installation of petro tanks under footpaths. —Received. From County Clerk, Grey mouth, • ctifying the Council of a meeting of delegates of No. 12 Highway Distric to be held on Wednesday cv<?ning April l.’ith, to conclude allocation *»f fees for the coming year. It was re solved that the Alayor and Town Clerk attend meeting. From G. Manderson, applying to 1 ave his garage converted into a butcher’s shop. It was resolved that the application bo granted, in accordance with Borough bye-laws, applicant to I submit plans of any addition or alter lat ions t o such building. I From G. Clay, tendering £3 for lease of Alunicipal Reserve Section •>. Ibk. 21, Runanga. It was resolved that ihis tender be accepted. Re tender made for building Conn cil Chambers, it was resolved that Mi lleseler’s tender of £24 (painting anl plumbing included) be ace-opted. Al though not mentioned in t cinder, it had Tieeri understood that, two coats of paint are to be applied. If was decided that Air Heseler be asked tu submit an estimate of the cost of ail materials required, and when these can L-c purchased, after which he is to be notified when to commence.
It was resolved that aecot.nts be passed for payment as follows: —Borough £23 15/(), gymnasium £5. From Air Louisch, fertiliser account of £l6 was received. It was resolved that Air Louisch be communicated with as to this account, he having quoted £8 per ton landed at door. It was mentioned that Air Alcrriman had called lor 1A tons of this order, and the balance had been railed, freight being charged at 5/-. Regarding a complaint re coal in the drain in Walker Street, it was resolved that Air Simpson be asked to have the coal removed from drain. It was resolved that the Alayor’s action be endorsed regarding a Borough employee carting slates for the Sports Club. It was resolved that the Council obtain a copy of the Greymouth Building Bye-Laws. The roadman’s report was received as 1 satisfactory. His Worship the Alayor reported re deputation, in the absence of Dr Bad deley, who had also attended deputa tion. —Received. It was resolved that the Clerk obtain information from the Public Works Department re a horse-drawn grader and other mechanical eontriv nnces for the grading, rolling and scarifying of roads.
