RUNANGA NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent). To-day is tin 1 opening of the League Club’s season, and the sports are all anxious to see what the “Magpies” can do this year. They will enter the field with the Red and Black so the usual good hard game is . expected. It is noted that some of our local folk have still a sense of the romantic, for during the week, some of the country people were able to relate an act which would equal any of the “Gretna Green” tales often read of in the papers. Miss N. Storie is leaving for a holiday trip to Christchurch to-day. Mrs J. Garvey leaves by to-day’s express for Christchurch on a holiday visit to her daughter, Mrs Kyle. Quite a number of former Runangaites took the opportunity of the excursion on Saturday last, to pay a visit to their relatives and friends in Runanga. The day being fine, and the sports meeting being on in Dunollie, it afforded them a golden opportunity of meeting practically all their old acquaintances.
On Saturday last the Ladies’ Hockey Club held their first dance of the season, which was a huge success. The music was in the capable hands of Mrs O’Neill ami Mr. N. Howard acted as M.C.„ while extras were played by Miss Orr and Air. Hawkins. The Convent euchre was hold on SatI urday evening, when Mr. J. Brown and I Master C. Kennedy each won an equal [number of games, so to save further playing, Mr. Brown gave Master Kennedy the choice of prizes.
