The death of Mr. Harry Barber Holdr, took place at Charleston on Tuesday fternoon. it is surmised from heart
failure. He had been trying to recuperate and had been staying at Charleston for the week-end. After a walk he returned to the European Hotel and collapsed. Mr. Holler was a native of ’Wanganui and came to the Coast as a young man, working on the railway, at the quarries and in the bush. He was storekeeping at Seddonville, ultimately taking over ■ the Criterion Hotel. West port. Mr. Holder represented the Mokihinui Riding in the County Council for two-terms. “Your Own” lias been approached upon the matter of the Watersiders’Bull being held on the same night as the Soccer entertainment at Denniston, but .is there was no intimation in the columns of the “Argus” of the Denniston entertainment, who is responsible > Balls in Westport are fairly frequent and those wishing to cany one on have to watch their opportunity, and there should be no clash. A good crowd from Westport will be at Denniston, and the bulk of Westport people will be at the Watersiders’ Ball. , Pending the Coroner’s verdict in the Millerton disaster eases, it would be inappropriate to make comments upon the evidence. Suffice it to say that Sergeant Seandreth appeared to have marshelled his witnesses in a masterly manlier, mid evidence was given in all eases with the evident intention ot making everything known, where pos sible. The exhibition of the proto apparatus, the men fully equipped with same, the explanation of the use of the various attachments, valves etc., gave all and sundry information that was of extreme value in understanding the technicalities in the ease. Mr. 11. f. Holland’s questions appeared to be asked with the intention of finding out anything which had. occurred could be prevented from happening again. The (evidence given by Mr. T. J. Pearson, son of one of the victims of the disaster, must have been particularly pain fid, and I feel sure that he had the sympathy of everyone in the Coroner’s Court.
Congratulations to Greymouth Municipal Band on its initial win in the A. Grade Hymn Competition. Look out when our Municipal Band tackles them, they will suprise the judge too!
