HORSEMAN’S EFFORT. AUCKLAND, February 24
G. N. Bell, a farmer, from Karere, Manawatu, who broke the record established by Captain 11. G. Tyrwhitt Drake (a millionaire horseman, whobeat the reputed performance of Died Turpin’s mare Black Bess in the riTie from London to York) left Auckland .on horseback at 5.45 this evening in an attempt to ride to Palmerston North. He carries a message from tfie Mayor of Auckland to the Mayor of Palmerston •‘North. He fulfilled the conditions of setting off on the ride of 300 miles without money or food.
