NICARAGUA.
BRITISH WARSKIP SENT. U.S.A. SURPRISED. (Received February 24 at 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 23. The United States Minister at Mana gua has informed the U.S.A. State Department that Britain is contemplating the despatch of a warship to the wesi coast of Nicaragua. He says that ac to the British Charge D’Affaires at Managua sueh action is contemplated in the absence of guarantees from the Nicbragauan and the United States Governments for the protection of lives and properties of British subjects, in the event of further street fighting, incendiarism, and pillage in the threatened districts of Nicaragua. LATER. In connection with the British Nicara guan note to the United States, the U.S.A. Secretary, Mr. Kellogg, says that Admiral Latimer has been instructed to protect foreign as well as American lives, and he is doing everything that can be done by other officials. Mr. Kellogg fails to understand the British note.
