Mr E. Ives returned last night from the North Island. Mr J. S. Longford, of Wellington, is visiting Grey mouth. Mrs Hay is at present on a visit to Mr and Mrs T. E. Y. Seddon. Mr 11. D. Davis, Chief Postmaster at Westport, left for Christchurch yesterday. Air W. F. Rudge is progressing satisfactorily after undergoing an operation at the Grey River Hospital. Messrs McGinley and Perotti wore last night nominated as the Borough representatives on the Fire Board. Miss N. J. Sullivan, of Wanganui, has been appointed Matron of the Reef ton Hospital. Mr Mark Stevens, formerly of Blackball, arrived last evening on a visit to Greymouth. The Rev. Dr Kennedy, of Hokitika, passed through Greymouth on his way home yesterday evening. Rev. Father Healey, of Ross, has been transferred to the charge of Beckenham parish, Christchurch. Messrs P. Deere (Greymouth) and F. McGregor (Hokitika) yesterday left to attend the United Fire Brigades’ Conference at Napier. Mr and Mrs Al. Mills, who have been I visiting Mr ami Mrs Mills, Turumaha i Street, returned to Christchurch yesterA cablegram from Sydney stated that the Rev. George Hewitt had been elected President of the New South Wales Methodist Conference. Joseph Cunningham’s English Comedy Company will arrive at Greymouth to-morrow, and will open their season at the Opera House to-morrow night with “The Unfair Sex.” Messrs L. Jackson and W. Larcombe, who have been staying in Auckland for the reception of the Duke and Duchess of York, returned by the express last evening. | Mrs J. McKenzie, Cowper Street, who (has been visiting her sister, Mrs 11. C. 1 Burnett, of Auckland, was a passenger by the express from Christchurch last night. Last night the Governor-General left Auckland by the Limited express for Wellington. Lady Alice Fergusson is unable to travel and will remain at Auckland until next week. Mrs C. McDonald, who has been th" guest of her mother, Mrs J. Pascoe. Franklin Street, returned to Christchurch this morning. She was accompanied by Miss Pascoe, who is spending a holiday in the citv.
A party of thirty-five American tour ists conducted by Pacific Tours Ltd. and nineteen of the Trancoma’s passen gers, who have been visiting the Fran; Josef Glacier, motored to Arthur’s Pas? and joined the express there Tor Christ church yesterday.
Yesterday Mr L. F. Casey, Manager of the Government Life Insurance Branch at Greymouth, accompanied by Mrs Casey, left on a holiday visit to Invercargill and Dunedin. He is being relieved by Mr T. V. Gardener, of th? Wellington Branch.
The Borough Council decided at its meeting last night to send a letter of sympathy to the widow and family of ex-Couneillor Greaney. The Mayor, in referring to Air Greaney’s death, said he had been a valuable member of the Council, and had done a great deal of good during his association with the affairs of the town. Cr O’Brien observed that he had been closely associated with Air Greaney. He paid a warm tribute to the deceased's valuable public service and estimable qualities.
